Welcome to the team
By Jana Neufeld, Associate Program Director
My journey with Manitoba Pioneer Camp began in 2018, when I found myself there for my first summer season; I heard about famous canoeist Bill Mason for the first time and led a two-week canoe trip. I loved it and came back for the 2019 summer season, when I lead the leadership training program. Although I don’t have a long history with MPC, I felt at home soon after arriving there. I had small role in the planning of Pioneer Camp 2020: Covid Edition, and at the end of the summer I began the process to join the year-round team.
Since I was young, I have enjoyed camping and canoeing, across Canada but especially in the Whiteshell. After graduating from high school, I attended Providence College where I graduated with a BA in Biblical and Theological studies and a certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I taught English in Korea and the Republic of Georgia, as well as in Manitoba for several years. During this time, I was always informally involved with my churches as a small group and retreat planner, among other things. As of this fall, I am working part time for St Margaret’s Anglican Church as the Worship Administrator, which I expect will be a good compliment to my MPC role.
I am already full of ideas for next summer, no matter what it looks like, and am excited to work with the MPC team to see first-hand the work that God is doing at Pioneer Camp.
